How to use

  1. Choose the root of the chord (e.g. C).
  2. Choose the chord type — maj7, m7, 9, 11, 13, altered, and so on.
  3. The highlighted keys are the chord tones. Each shows its degree (1, 3, 5, ♭7, 9…).

Degree notation

1 = root, 3 = major third, ♭3 = minor third, 5 = perfect fifth, ♭7 = minor seventh, 7 = major seventh, 9 / 11 / 13 = extensions. A ♯ or ♭ marks an altered tone.

About 9th, 11th and 13th chords

This tool shows the full theoretical stack for learning. In practice, players often drop notes — the 3rd in an 11th chord, the 11th in a 13th chord — and when there's a bass player the root and 5th are frequently left out too.

FAQ

Where is "C7" on the keyboard?
Set the root to C and the type to "Dominant 7th (7)": C, E, G and B♭ light up.
No sound?
Mobile browsers stay silent until the first tap. Tap the screen once, then press play.
Does it do guitar chords?
Piano (keyboard) view only for now. The chord tones are the same on any instrument, so it's still a useful reference.
